365 Days of Horses | Ringo | Helotes, TX

JOHNNY RINGO | 13 YEAR OLD ARABIAN | HELOTES, TX

Ringo, Johnny Ringo is a 13 year old light bay Arrabian with four white socks and a blaze. He lives and trains with his owner Janine Mendez.

Janine was given Ringo when he was two years old from a lady who purchased him to grow up with her grandchildren and when she realized she couldn’t handle him, she gave him to Janine saying he was three years old. Janine started to work with him and broke him, only to realize later that the age they told her was wrong and he was younger than what they said. Janine has owned him for about 11 years. When a rider, Emily, started riding Ringo as one of her projects, he was a horse who got easily spooked and couldn’t hold a proper frame for long, so he was interesting to work with, but he has completely changed in the time of riding him, Emily even took him to his first shows ever and they placed.

Currently, Emily rides Ringo and has been working with him for a little over six months, and they ride dressage. Ringo is a horse that has changed over the past several months, he wants to please you and he loves to look fancy, so he always has this flare when riding. Ringo is a very fun horse, he loves to stretch and he loves his mane to be braided, but not his tail. He is a sweet boy and loves to talk to you, he loves pictures and poses for them all of the time. He also loves carrots!

Janine started riding when she was little, on her childhood appaloosa, Lighting, and she continued to ride at various barns and worked at Arabian facilities and other dressage facilities until she established her own. She has had horses pretty much all of her life. She loves being able to work with them and see how much they change with the different riders and who they attach too and how they grow with her and them.

Ringo is a horse who has always been one that is known for spooking and for having his “Ringo moments,” Emily started working with him and after several months of working with him, he began to trust her and they grew a bond together. There was one day where there was lots of action going on at the barn, yard work, and what usually would have spooked him, didn’t and he listened to her a trusted her and they have been having less of an issue with spooking!
