365 Days of Horses | Sweetie | Cypress, TX

MADOC SWEETBRIAR ROSE | 9 YEAR OLD WELSH COB | CYPRESS, TX

Madoc Sweetbriar Rose, Sweetie, is out of the stallion Kentchurch Chime. He was the first Welsh Cob to show GP in the US. (or any pony). Her dam was Rosina and all the fillies were named after roses. The Kentchurch Chime/Rosina babies are very athletic sport ponies with several going on to compete at the GP and FEI levels. She was bred by Mary Alice Williams of Madoc Farms and is a buckskin Welsh Cob with a star and hind sock. Sweetie is owned by Mendy and lives in Cypress, TX.

Sweetie is a very sweet, but opinionated mare. Her owner said it took quite awhile to earn her trust, but once earned, she tries her heart out and is always ready! She is ridden 4 to 5 times a week and practices Dressage. She has just enough spice to make things interesting, but she is a solid horse. She is described as ‘sweet’ and is known to love carrots!

Her owner, Mendy, shares, “I did not start riding until I was 45! I had never ridden – I was always the horse show mom, but when my daughter went off to TAMU, her FEI horse, Madoc Alexander the Greatest, stayed home and I decided I wanted to learn to ride. We have owned horses for the last 20 years and you never stop learning something new everyday. I love that! I have owned Sweetie 3 years this May 23rd! Kylie Brkusich told me about Sweetie and I have known Nancy Hinz for 16 years. I knew the first time I sat on Sweetie that I wanted her! She really trusts me and that is a very special bond and responsibility on my part. We truly have begun a partnership.”

Recently they both went to the National Dressage Pony Cup at the Kentucky Horse Park last summer, 2016. Nancy Hinz showed her first level and I showed her in a Pas de Deux with Brigitte Wexler on Alis. Mendy said, “It was an amazing experience. Sweetie was awesome!”
