“Chip is the most in your pocket horse I have ever met. He is friendly and curious and will get his nose into anything, and luckily that is paired with a substantial amount of bravery! Chip loves to give sniffs and hugs. He’d probably hang out with you in the house if he were allowed. Chip has taken Hans’ place as the leader of the herd.”

Chip was retired from his performance career in western disciplines due to a diagnosis of navicular, however he is quite happen to continue having a job at a slower pace. Chip is a horse with a work ethic, and he loves to be a part of all the action. He is forward and sensitive and comes with all kinds of bells and whistles, from flying changes to turn on the haunches, though we don’t ask those things of him. Chip has a forward walk which provides a lot of sensory input and is perfect for some of our riders. Chip does an amazing job of standing still during mounted games and activities on the trail.

“Chip was referred to us by Dr. Evans at Austin Equine, and is on a care lease at RED Arena. He has been with us for about a year. Chip was a little excited the first day he arrived, but settled in quite quickly.”

Ocala Florida Equine Photographer | Karinda K Texas Equine Photography | equine.karindak.comChip’s owner Kristen got him as a yearling and raised, broke, and trained him. He was bred to be a Barrel Racer but didn’t care to go that fast. When Kristen started a family, Chip moved to California with her sister and became a Reiner, a discipline he really shined in. When she decided to start a family, Chip came back to Texas, and Kristen’s five year old daughter began to ride him. He was instrumental for her to move up from pony to horse.

Chip has always been the kindest and sweetest horse! He loves to be the center of attention and is a total goof ball. he loves water and swimming. Kristen says, “he is a special horse and a member of our family, we are happy he has found RED Arena and is helping others!”

This inquisitive horse loves apples.

Kate shares, “My favorite memory of Chip comes from shortly after he arrived to RED Arena… he was so new to the program that he wasn’t even included in the Horse of the Year nominations and didn’t have any students yet. That being said, our annual Round Up event was being held at a new location for the first time, a covered arena at Dripping Springs Ranch park with lots of noise, a loudspeaker, and another show being hosted the same day. Despite our best efforts to prepare our horses for the big day with dress rehearsals and arriving a day early to settle in, 2 of our horses were too nervous to go through with the event. Chip, however, handled it like an old pro. A testament to his former performance career, Chip was totally unflappable with all the noise, commotion, new surroundings and strange horses.”
