Mud is owned by Heather McInerney of Timeless Sport Horses. Mud has an incredibly unique and quirky personality that stood out the minute I walked into the barn. Heather was finishing up braiding him and I couldn’t help but fall in love with this big boy’s personality. Oh, and when I say big boy, he is really HUGE for a horse that is just a hair under 3 years old. Heather says, “He is a complete doofus, and has more personality than any other horse I’ve had. He loves to be cuddles, but can’t stand his nose to be kissed”

The story of how this pair ended up together is one for the books, “I have had him for just over a year, but had my eye on him sense he was a foal. He was at a farm in Canada that I had looked at some and talked to the owner, I really liked the stallions that she used and most all of her mares. He was sold when I first saw him, that sale fell through for personal reasons and now he was a growthy gawky yearling. All legs and awkward, but I still loved him. I had a friend that was looking for a young horse and after several conversations about it she went under contract on him. Well later that year, she ended up having to back out as well for personal reasons and she offered me the chance at him. I couldn’t pass this gawky baby up a third time!! I had bought another from the same breeder, and went to pick both of them up from Airdrie, Alberta in February of 2016. When I saw him in person for the first time, he was already starting to bloom out of his awkward stage.” I think it is safe to say this pair is a meant to be.

Last year he was best young horse 3 times at shows, he was also 3rd in the zone for 2 year old Hunter Breeding last year after only attending 4 shows.

Heather started riding when she was 6 and got her first horse when she was 8. Heather has been riding for 18 years, and owned horses for 16. Heather got into breeding 4 years ago when she purchased her very first warmblood. She has been hooked ever since. She loves the young horses, and loves getting to see their “light bulb” moments when everything you have been trying to tell them finally clicks.

Heather shares a few of her favorite tips and tricks for fellow horse owners, she loves, Healthy Hair, Lucky Braids, and Hay Rite. She also shares that they should be outside as much as possible especially when they are young

Heather’s favorite memory of Mud happened just a few days before I photographed him as a part of 365 Days of Horses. “I took him and 2 others to the Young Horse Show Qualifier in KY on April 22. It was a high of 53, rainy and windy. He was better behaved than he has ever been and got to go through a jump chutes for the first time. It was so rewarding to watch him learn and correct himself. It’s amazing how they have such strong natural instincts for what they are bred to do!”
