GW Amurath Sunrise | Springfield, MO Equine Photographer | Old Mill Equestrian Center

Lately I get asked the question, “Where do you live these days?” It turns out that my one year stent in Missouri confused quite a few people. My husband sometimes travels for work, and he ended up in Springfield, Missouri for a year long job. Well, I packed up the horses and dogs and we went with him to Springfield. For the record, I live just outside of Houston in Montgomery,TX. We both just so happened to fall in love with Springfield, so I will take almost any excuse to make a trip back to one of my favorite towns, and of course to visit my barn family up there! When Heather snagged a session on Black Friday I was so excited, because that meant I could take a little trip up!

Heather boards her horse at Old Mill Equestrian which is a beautiful facility with the most amazing indoor arena that is attached to the barn, a necessity in winter in Missouri. When I was living in Missouri, we took the horses over to Old Mill Equestrian one evening to ride in their HUGE arena when it was freezing cold out. The other thing I love about Old Mill Equestrian is the giant aisle way in the barn, it is a photographer’s dream! So much space to spread out and do all sorts of creative images.

Heather’s horse is a gorgeous 10 year old Polish Arabian, named GW Amurath Sunrise, and known as Ari around the barn. The pair does dressage most of the time, but they also enjoy trail riding, swimming in the pond, ground driving, and they plan to jump one day. Heather found him through her sister who saw him as a foal at just a couple months old. Ari belonged to a friend who bred Arabians, when heather met him she instantly fell in love, and he was only 15 months old.

Heather shares that Ari is a feisty, sassy, pistol of a red-head, but he’s sweet and so fun. Sounds just about right for a flashy red head. “He is definitely curious, and rambunctious but he’ll be pretty level-headed when I take him trail riding through construction zones and the like. He will fling his head around side to side when he runs sometimes which makes it hard for him to keep running straight, it’s funny to watch, and always throws his nose in the air when he’s goofing off in the pasture. Also, I taught him how to play fetch when he was little…we need to brush up on those skills! Since he was little he would come running to meet me whenever I called him, that’s probably my favorite thing.”

“My favorite memory is when he was about 5 years old and I had him boarded with a friend back home and I couldn’t go see him for about 6 months. When I got back to see him I went out to the pasture fence, called his name, and like he always did he looked up and then came cantering up the hill to meet me at the gate. He would always come running to see me.”
