LUNA LOVEGOOD | 6 MONTH OLD DUTCH WARMBLOOD FILLY | AUSTIN,TX

Luna, Luna Lovegood, is a Dutch Warmblood Filly. She is by Connaisseur (Con Armore x Donnerhall), and out of Carpe Diem (Farrington x Pass the Glass XX). Luna is a half sister to Rafalca’s filly, Rafaella. She was bred by Scot Tolman of Shooting Star Farm. Luna is currently living at Galloping Springs Ranch.

Luna is Ashley Shaw‘s brand new filly that she just brought in from New Hampshire. Luna is a very curious, stubborn, and a little bossy at times. In true baby form she loves feeding time, likes harassing the dogs, and being cuddled. She currently is not a fan of leading or holding her feet up, but you know those are all baby things! She would rather lay down when her feet are picked up than hold up her own weight.

Luna has big plans in her future. Ashley hopes to make Luna her next FEI horse, but time will tell! Luna has a quick hind leg and is very balanced, and should be a good size. “My favorite thing about her is her color. She’s a beautiful dark chestnut and I can’t wait until she matures. She’s gorgeous. But for now I can’t get enough of her cute little baby nose! She’s also very stubborn and makes me laugh a lot.”

I love the story of how Ashley found Luna, “I’ve been researching breeders for some time now and enjoy learning about who is producing what. I read Scot’s article, Scot’s Journal, when it was published in Warmbloods Today. I noticed Connaisseur before going to Belgium and considered using him on one of my mares, but then took the job in California and didn’t. When I learned who Rafalca was in foal to, and that one of the girls I worked with, Amelie, had worked with Connaisseur, I became more interested. Ultimately learning about how easy he was to work with I wanted to see if it was possible to get a foal by him in the United States. I found that Scot had one expected summer of 2016 and the foal was not spoken for. So I asked to purchase the foal and secretly my hoped it would be a filly, and it was!”

“Apparently Connaisseur’s nickname in Europe was Connie, and that’s my grabdmother’s name and my boyfriend’s nickname. I already have a horse named C’est La Vie, so the dam’s name, Carpe Diem, seemed to fit. So far she is perfect!”

This curious little filly loves peppermints.  She spent her first ever trailer ride going from New Hampshire to Texas in the beginning of December and she handled it like a champ! Her character is incredible at only 6 months old.

Ashley shares, “If you get a young horse, do everything to them when they’re small. Clip little parts of them, pick up their feet, load in the trailer, go through puddles- you name it. It’s a lot easier to train a horse when everything is a game because they’re curious about life. Just be careful not to drill things!”
