Kidd is owned by Krysta, who I have gotten to know over the past few years because of the many vet trips in and out of Collier Equine. She is one of the smiling faces that works in the office. She is also the person that sent me one of the most exciting pictures of my life, a picture of my foal Calypso the morning she was born! Talk about the best text to ever wake up to!

Kidd lives at Firecreek Stables in Waller,TX and is trained by Krysta. It is always so interesting to hear the different ways people stumble upon their horses and Krysta & Kidd’s story is perfection.  “I can only call finding my horse something short of fate! I worked at a show barn as a sort of barn sitter while the trainer was away at shows when Kidd came in. The trainer handles mostly pleasure horses so his arrival made him stick out a mile! I immediately fell in love with him and ooohed and ahhhed over him for weeks. She then informed me the owners were downsizing their herd and switching disciplines so he was for going to be for sale. Most definitely not needing another horse and him being obviously over anything I could afford, I walked away. By some streak of what I can only call fate and some of the most kind hearted people the trainer contacted me and we were able to work out a payment plan to help me afford him. Long story short I now have a horse I never thought I would be lucky enough to have the opportunity to own. I’ve had him for just over a year now and we are finally starting to hit our stride together. So excited for next year and show season with him!”

Often times I see so many pictures of friends horses on social media that I feel like I know them without even meeting them. I was so excited to meet this big guy, who seems to always be up to something every time I see Krysta share a pictures of him. She describes him as having a personality larger than he is, which is pretty big considering he is around 1400lbs on a skinny day! He is actually just a giant puppy dog locked in a halter horse’s body, who wants to be loved on and give kisses back. When we were photographing him we took his halter off and he just stood like a gentleman, although I could tell he really wanted to just go lay his head on his Mom’s shoulder. “From a young age his breeder saw something very special in him and he became her personal show horse. He had won multiple halter world championship and reserve world championship titles by the time he was three in not only amateur but open competition also. In addition to his good looks he is the sweetest most kind hearted horse I’ve ever met and he gives 110% in everything he’s asked to do!”

Krysta has just recently started riding Kidd, as he is just now getting mature enough to handle being worked with his massive body. I love that Krysta has taken her time to let him grow, because oh my goodness, he is really HUGE! She said, ” I have just started riding him! As a World Champion halter horse he is beyond massive and there is a lot of weight on his joints. As such I stripped him down into a more athlete form instead of body builder form and have started riding him. It is my goal to get him going western and show him under saddle. I want to knock the stereotype that halter horses are “feed and leads” and can’t do anything else!”
I am going to guess that you may have been able to guess, but this “giant fat kid” as his Mom called him loves to eat absolutely anything!

Some of Kidd’s most notable awards include the APHA World Champion & Reserve World Champion Halter Horse and the PTHA World Champion & Reserve World Champion Halter Horse.

I think every horse person’s story starts something like…I convinced someone to buy me lessons..and the rest was history, well Krysta’s story is no different!  “My family got me into horses when I was little by arranging my first horse riding lesson at age 5. After the first time being around horses on the ground and under saddle I immediately fell in love and have had a life long addiction ever since! I have owned my own horses for about 14yrs and will hopefully continue to own horses for the rest of my life. The best thing about owning horses is the incomparable bond that is formed between the horse and myself. For the most part horses are genuine, kind and trustworthy in a way people never are. No matter what kind of day I’ve had I am happy to see my horse and he is happy to see me. It is the probably one of the most expensive forms of stress relief but its worth every penny!”

And the last part is so true, the most expensive form of stress relief! I may have to use that one in the future!

I always ask for the best tips and tricks to share on the blog, here are are few from Krysta.

“You get back what you put in! by that I mean time and energy not just financially! if you put in the time to work with your horse every day that you can whether that may be 2 days a week or seven days a week your horse will grow in training and bonding comparatively!”

“Grooming is so important to not only your horses coat and skin but bonding! I try to groom my horse every day! Even if its a quick brush over but I’m sure to do a complete groom once a week! This makes his coat better than any supplement could ever do! However my guilty pleasure is Laser Sheen! I put it in his mane and tail almost every day and the difference is amazing! They pull out so much less tail hair while turned out and in a stall when its kept tangle free which in turn helps grow a better tail. That’s my theory I’m not sure if its right but I’ve really seen a difference over the years! As well as tail bags! Also my best friend!”

Ok seriously, Kidd had to have been the shiniest horse I have seen with a winter coat. I snuck this session in right after our first cold snap in Texas so all of the horses were starting to get their winter coats in… Clearly, what Krysta is doing works!

“My favorite memory of Kidd is watching his personality develop and the first time he realized I was his human. The joy filled facial expressions and big nickers from this once shy, cranky show horse melts my heart every day! I live on the property and he whinnies at the top of his lungs when he sees me walking towards the barn.”
