RANGER | 13 YEAR OLD THROUGHBRED GELDING | FINCHVILLE,KY

Ranger is a 13 year old Thoroughbred Gelding. He was bred at Little Britain Stables in Burlington,KY.

Ranger is owned by Sandra, and lives at Sunny Patch Equine Center just outside of Louisville,KY and the pair trains with Kaitlyn or Heirloom Equestrian. When Ranger was born they knew that he wouldn’t be a big Thoroughbred, and he wouldn’t be trained to race so they named him, “Never had a Chance,” and called him Chance. When he was two years old he was sold to Gail Brunner who used him as a trail horse for more than 10 years. Eventually she was unable to care for him, and donated him to Last Chance Corral in Ohio.  When Sandra found him, she decided to change his name to Ranger, and make his show name Battalion Command. He is a very laid back horse that doesn’t mind being the last at the round bale in the field. If there are any other horses that are excluded from the bale or the herd, he always pairs up with the “outside” horse. Ranger is always part of the herd, but never ignores other horses who are on the outside.

Sandra purchased him last October and had him trained in Florence,KY to be comfortable being ridden English, she eventually plans to jump him and show him in local shows. The best thing about riding Ranger is that he has a cruise control setting, once a rider gets him at the pace you want, he can be ridden on the buckle the entire time and will not speed up or slow down on his own.

As soon as Sandra had the chance to purchase a horse she did, she had always liked appendix QH’s. Sandra’s sister found him on the website for Last Chance Corral. Apparently when Ranger gains weight, it all goes to his butt, and his butt was so big it resembled a Quarter Horse butt. Sandra’s sister who is a teenager and an awesome rider, and Sandra headed up to Columbus, OH to ride him. He was a little spirited, but very affectionate.

This sweet boy loves Mini Cupcakes.

Sandra and Ranger have’t been together for long, but she considers his inclusive personality as his best trait. He has been known to be nice to absolutely everyone, and every other animals including a donkey that he adopted when it was added to the herd. Sandra adores his big heart.

Sandra has loved horses her entire life and finally when she was in a good place financially decided to do something that would bring her joy, so 5 years ago she found a stable that gave lessons. “I still remember my first lesson on Champ and I remember thinking, “this is the first thing I’ve ever done that is even better than I thought it would be” I was able to finally own a horse October 2016.”

“The first time I called out his name when I got to the barn and he neighed/whinnied in response. I knew that he enjoyed that I fed him treats and made him happy, but he never responded when I called out to him. So after owning him about 7 months, he not only responded, but immediately came to the front of the stall to greet me! Now he even neighs in the field when I call out to him and then comes to me.”

Sandra shares that she constantly talks to Ranger while riding, and that she never holds her great when scared or jumping because she never stops talking. This is a great tip for dealing with anxiety or fear while riding, because talking keeps you breathing!  Sandra also shares, “Greet and love on every horse in the barn. There’s always a chance that other owners don’t love their horses as much as you do yours.”

PS. Do you recognize his white marking from anything?!
