PANDA | 9-YEAR-OLD QUARTER HORSE | ELIZABETHTOWN,KY

Panda is a 9 or 10-year-old Quarter Horse that lives at Wild Rose Equestrian Center in Elizabethtown, KY.

Panda found her current person, Tiffany, in 2011. Panda was a lesson horse at Wild Rose when Tiffany began taking lessons there. Horses and mules had long been part of Tiffany’s family – her great-grandfather drove wagons and won many competitions with his mules. Her family had gotten out of the horse business when she came across Wild Rose and realized she wanted to ride again.

“I fell in love with her very quickly, no other horse compared,” Tiffany says. “We instantly had a connection. Though she was not up for sale or lease at the time, I persistently asked for her to be mine and Karen at Wild Rose finally caved.” Tiffany’s husband recently surprised Tiffany and purchased Panda for her as her birthday gift!

The pair does Western Pleasure with instructor Jordan Brown Lockard. Her husband, Jacob, has recently taken up lessons and rides with Tiffany and Panda, too.Tiffany rides and grooms Panda almost daily; some people say Panda is the most-groomed horse on the farm. Panda enjoys apples and face rubs, often falling asleep during a good snuggle session. She is known for her gentle attitude and extremely smooth trot and canter.

“My favorite thing is the connection that her and I have. I trust her and she trusts me,” said Tiffany. “Every time I am with Panda and at the farm it truly is my happy place. I love every good experience and learn from the bad ones. I feel like Panda and me have an unbreakable bond. She has helped me get over my fears and find courage in riding.”

One of the most important things Tiffany has learned from Panda is the importance of verbal communication, especially praise. Making sure a horse knows when they have done something right is just as important as giving an instruction.

The other thing Panda has helped Tiffany experience is the bonds horses can forge between people.

“Wild Rose is not just a business but has become family to me,” Tiffany says. “Karen and Tom, Jordan and Andrew, Kayla and Layne, Amanda — all of them are very special to me. I don’t feel like I would be where I am today without them and their knowledge of horses.”
