365 Days of Horses | Ellie | Cartujano Andalusian

BESSOS ELIGANTE | 12 YEAR OLD ANDALUSIAN | AUSTIN, TX

Bessos Eligante, Ellie, is a 12 year old gray Cartujano, Andalusian Mare – a breed created by the monks. This special line of Andalusians are considered the purest of the Andalusian breed. Ellie lives at home with her owner Kristi just outside of Austin,TX.

Kristi shares that everything Ellie does is unique, and she has an amazing confidence about her. She is very trust worthy and dependable in any situation, and because of this, they do a lot of trail riding in the mountains. For example, one of Kristi’s favorite memories with Ellie is Riding in Yellowstone Park and going over a suspension bridge with rapids below. Kristi shares that she hates heights but trusted Ellie to take her over with out a worry.

Kristi has had horses since she was a little girl. Her grandfather bought her first horse when she was 5. She loves how they area always honest with you and have a way of always know how they feel. Kristi also believes that we often times try to do too much, too fast with the young horses.”They are amazing and we should slow down and enjoy the journey!”

I agree with Kristi’s advice 100%. Kristi is a phenomenal trainer and also plays a huge part in the training of the amazing therapy horses at Red Arena in Dripping Springs,TX. Some of Red Arena’s favorite horses that Kristi has helped with include Maggie and Hans.

Kristi’s long term friend previously had Ellie. When Kristi first met Ellie, she was 5 and really not saddle trained, but Kristi liked her from the beginning and has now had her for the past 7 years. Kristi also does trick training with her horses so Ellie has some amazing tricks.

Kristi says this “amazing” girl will eat just about anything you feed her. Ellie has also done many bridal shoots and weddings, it is no surprise that she is a favorite of future brides who dream of having a majestic white horse be a part of their big day. One of Ellie’s biggest claims to fame is that she was used for an opening in downtown Austin at the SXSW film festival called The Incomparable Rose Hartman.
