Wellington Florida Equine Photographer | Fucho the Lusitano
Fucho is a Lusitano Stallion that is owned by Haras Dos Cavaleiros. His sire is Rubi and his dam is Altisa. He was bred in Portugal by Quinta Dos Pedros, LDTA and imported into the United States when he was 3 years old.
Funcho is something special. Even though he is young, he has been around the country competing in Working Equitation and has seen great success in it. At the 2016 Andalusian World Cup, he was named Champion Stallion and received the Best Movement award. He is currently showing Prix St. George level in Dressage with excellent success and is schooling Grand Prix exercises. With his athleticism and trainability paired with his baroque style and sweet personality, they are expecting wonderful things out of his offspring.
Head trainer Tiago Ernesto of Haras dos Cavaleiros trains and competes on Fucho in both Dressage and Working Equitation. Tiago says the best thing about this talented horse is he is always ready to whatever is asked of him. Not only does he have the movement and ability to be an upper level horse, Funcho has the willingness and eagerness to please his rider. With these things combined, they expect to see Funcho at the top of his class for years to come!
Funcho is from Portugal. Haras Dos Cavaleiros is lucky to have Jorge de Sousa as part of their team. Jorge is a top level competitor and trainer from Portugal. He assists Haras in many ways, including training the trainers and helping select horses. Jorge was the one who found Funcho and spotted his talent early on before he was even started under saddle.
When I asked the team of Haras dos Cavaleiros to describe Fucho in one word they said, Confident – Funcho is the man and he knows it! When he walks into an arena, it is like time stops for him. It seems people quit what they were doing and all eyes turn to Funcho. After spending the afternoon at HDC, I can honestly say that Fucho steals the attention of each and every person that he encounters, including myself when I walked into the barn.
Funcho is a major accomplishment for Haras’ Head Trainer, Tiago Ernesto. Tiago has done all of the training with Funcho. From the beginning, starting Funcho under saddle, to competing successfully in Prix St. George level, Tiago has gotten Funcho to where he is today. Now, they are schooling many of the Grand Prix movements with hopes to be showing there in the next couple years. For a trainer, it is such a huge accomplishment to bring a horse successfully from the bottom to the top. Haras Dos Cavaleiros is proud of Tiago and Funcho for all they have accomplished already and look forward to seeing them continue to achieve great things in the future.
