Meet Winnie, also known as ‘Valencia’ in the show ring, a 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood. This sweet chestnut mare has a unique white heart on her face. Winnie is owned and loved by Amelia Clayton. This dynamic duo trains with Britt McCormick out of Fairway Farms in Allen, TX.
Amelia first tried Winnie in Katy at last year’s Winter Series. The pair have been together for about a year now.
Winnie is Amelia’s very first jumper. From the first moment she got on and jumped her, she fell in love with her knowing she was the one immediately. So much so that they bought her that same day! Amelia immediately started the jumpers and with Winnie as her partner, she made her love it so much.
The pair recently performed in the 1.10m class, which was a first for Amelia. They had a clear round and Winnie was incredible, shared Amelia. The pair placed in the class out of a big group of people which is a huge accomplishment to be so proud of. “She has taught me so much and everything I do with her is always so fun and exciting. She can be pretty sassy but usually soften up with a treat and an ear scratch.”
Winnie’s favorite treats are apples and peppermint patties.
Amelia first started riding when she was 6 years old, so it’s been 8 years now. She started riding because her older sister, Olivia, also rides which led to being around horses all the time and developing a love for them. Amelia shares that her favorite thing about owning horses “is the bond you make with them that carries out to the ring.”
