Meet Uno Mas, “Rico”, who is a 13-year-old Dutch Warmblooded dark bay with a white star on his face. His sire is Numero Uno, who is a 1.60m Olympic jumping horse out of the Netherlands. Rico is owned and ridden by Charmaine who trains with Colleen Acosta at Fairway Farm in Cross Roads, TX – right outside of Denton, TX.
Rico was a birthday gift to Charmaine about a year and a half ago. “When I first got on him, he was so lazy on the flat that I didn’t think he was the horse for me. But when I jumped him around, I knew he was the one. He’s hands down the best horse I’ve ever had.”, says Charmaine.
Charmaine shares that her favorite memory is when she first tried Rico to purchase in Brownland, TN. “We took him out from the pasture and lead him back to the barn while riding in a golf cart. He was just as happy-go-lucky then as he is today. I feel privileged that he loves me and chose me as his person. He’s sensitive but everyone in the barn knows that he loves me more than anything else, including treats.”
Rico loves any sort of treat, but most of all, he loves sharing a banana with Charmaine.
“I’ve always loved horses since I was a little girl but I’ve only had horses for about 11 years. I got into riding when I worked with a girl who used to be a jockey and she educated me on horses and their individual personalities. She taught me how good riders must adapt to a horse’s personality. My favorite thing about owning a horse is the valuable lessons I learn from each and every ride. I learn how to be patient, how to ask nicely but directly, how to show appreciation, how to stand tall through adversity, and many more.”, shares Charmaine.
