Texas Horse Portraits | Boon the Quarter Horse
Boon, Quils Boon Solis, is a 12 year old Quarter Horse. He is owned by Mackenzie and lives at Equatics Fitness in Kingsville, TX. He is a large gray horse with a brand on his left shoulder that is a “V” with two lines under it.
Boon is very laid back and has a very “chill” spirit. When ridden in the rope box he keeps his head down and is very relaxed, but when the gate is open he’s right on spot with the calf. I think this is something that every roper out there can be envious of. Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t love to have a roping horse that is calm and relaxed in the box. He is ridden about three times a week. To keep him in top shape and help with his longevity, he even swims a couple times a month at FitHorse Equatics Fitness Center! Mackenzie says Boon loves any sort of food or treat you will give him.
Mackenzie explains her first encounter with Boon, “I was in the need of a new roping horse and my step dad was talking to a good friend, Wade Pinkston, about me needing a horse. Wade then told Mike, my step dad, that he knew of a horse. We then went to try him in San Antonio and I loved him.”
“My favorite memory with Boon will probably be the first night I was on him. He made me feel like I was a real breakaway roper, like I was just playing around anymore.”
