Pawnee, Stag Creek Pawnee, is a American Bashkir Curly. She was bred by Barbara Carroll at Stag Creek Farm.

Catherine, her owner says, “Her breeder selectively bred for quite a few years focusing on good conformation with a people-loving, easy-to-train personality. Her lineage goes back to Wild Caught Curly Mustangs as well as a few other breeds that were mixed in in the beginning to expand the lines as numbers of curlies were limited, and still aren’t abundant. Among the most well-known Curlies she goes back to are: Bad Warrior, Peacock D, and Copper D.”

Pawnee is smokey black with a star and a curly mane and wavy tail. She currently lives in a cow pasture and has been trained strictly for leaisure and trail riding. This mare, although occasionally pushy on the ground, especially with other horses, but is an absolute joy in the saddle! She focuses and puts her differences aside to have fun, even when a friend comes to ride. She’s never put a foot wrong for a guest on her back.

Her owner says, “Pawnee is always looking for something to do and will leave her herdmates and hay bale happily at the call of her name to come see what you need. She always wants to be in the middle of what’s going on and thoroughly enjoys everything you try in training. She tends to get jealous if I, personally, spend time with other horses and will make it very clear. She’s obsessed and would prefer to have me all to herself, though could care less if others spend time with other horses. It’s a rather nice gesture to see how much she wants me to focus all my attention on her. I love her for it!”

Catherine says the word “intelligent” sums up Pawnee very well and that he will eat and enjoy anything you give him! Pawnee is her absolute favorite and every moment she spends with this horse is amazing! She has been a godsend to Catherine in so many ways, even though sometimes she is a handful!
