Meet “Sassy”, an 11-year-old Welsh x Thoroughbred German Sports Pony who was bred by Solomon Farms in South Dakota. She is grey with three white socks, one grey leg, and a stripe along her face. Sassy is ridden by Hannah Enderlin, and owned by Lida McAllister. The pair trains with Claudia Conn out of Twisted Oak Farm in Bulverde, TX, however, she boards Sassy at Lida McAllister’s with her mom’s horse, Bowie!
Hannah shares her favorite memory of Sassy which was when they visited Rebecca Farm. Let’s preface this by explaining this mare is highly food motivated, so much so that they had to get a stall guard for her so there would be no pony escapes because directly outside her stall was luscious green grass. Well, the stall guard didn’t stop this determined one…there was a pony escape indeed! She couldn’t help herself as the grass was so inviting! Thankfully someone caught her wandering around the event and once Hannah got to her she knew she was in trouble and had the guiltiest look on her face, although Hannah couldn’t help but laugh.
The Enderlin found Sassy through Lida McAllister, whose daughter used to ride and own her. She rode her in eventing as well as Hunters. Hannah has been riding Sassy for 3 and a half years now and Lida’s daughter, Camdyn is still able to see Sassy since she is boarded at Lida’s place. It’s a win-win for everyone!
There are two memories that jump out to Hannah as favorites. Every day when I going to put her bridle on she does what we call ‘stinky face’ it never gets old! Also, on schooling days when we go to Hunter shows, she is always fired up, but as soon as we step into the show ring she knows and immediately puts her ‘fancy pants’ on!”, says Hannah.
Sassy isn’t shy when it comes to treats and will eat anything.
Hannah’s mom, Jennifer also rides and we photographed her horse, Bowie, during Pin Oak this year as well! You can say that riding in the Enderlin Family is a family affair. Hannah started riding at age 3 when she got her first pony, Cinnamon, who’s a mini and is her whole heart! Hannah now has a huge passion for Eventing and performing in the Hunter ring.
