San Antonio Equine Photographer | Everest the Dutch Warmblood
Everest is a Dutch Warmblood Mare. She is a gorgeous Paint with one blue and one brown eye.
Everest is one of Janine’s projects that she has been working with for around two years. Everest is known as “big girl” because of her size, she stands just around 18 hands. She has grown very attached to two other mares at the barn, an appaloosa and a little red roan pony. This Paint Dutch Warmblood has a quirky personality and loves attention, but most of all she loves food.
Janine rides her and the pair does dressage. Big Girl is fascinating to work with, she was trained before she came to Janine’s place, however her previous owners let her get away with some bad habits which they are now working on fixing. Everest can be a bit of a challenge, but she wants to please her rider. She is also a fabulous mover.
Janine first found Everest in an online ad and flew up to Kansas the following day to look at her. She fell in love with this flashy marked mare, that was such a beautiful mover and purchased her a few days later. When Everest first arrived, they realized her brakes didn’t work too great and that was one of the first big hurdles when training her. She is such an eye appealing mare and loves to show off.
This flamboyant mare loves Poptarts. Yes, you heard that right, Poptarts!
Janine started riding when she was little, on her childhood appaloosa, Lighting, and she continued to ride at various barns and worked at Arabian facilities and other dressage facilities until she established her own. She has had horses pretty much all of her life. She loves being able to work with them and see how much they change with the different riders and who they attach too and how they grow with her and them.
“When Big Girl first came, she was very weary of the new barn and the other horses, before she had been moved around a lot and had been with a few owners already. After several months of getting too know the herd and to know Janine, her personality started to come out. Before, she was a shy horse who didn’t seem to fit in, but she slowly started to show her quirky self and she never ceases to amaze us. She loves Poptarts and one day, one of the riders had one in her hand and Big Girl was in a stall next to her and Big Girl reached down and took the whole Poptart out of the girls hand.”
