Robing of Loxley | Irish Day Farm | Houston, TX Horse Photographer

Meet “Loxely”, otherwise known in the show ring as Robing of Loxley. Loxley is owned and ridden by Laury. Loxley is a 14-year-old Mecklenburg, also known as a German Warmblood, who lives at Irish Day Farm in Houston, TX, where the pair trains with Katie Lambert.

Loxley was imported from Germany in 2014. He is from a small registry of German Warmbloods. His sire is Leviscal and dam is Luna.

Laury has had Loxley for about a year and already has so many memories with him in such a short amount of time due to his goofy personality. Laury shares that Loxley “loves attention and will flip my tack trunk over when I am not looking. When I put it back together, he will do it again. He just wants treats and attention. He also can shake his head yes when you engage with him and talk to him. He is really funny.”

Laury says “Loxley reminds me of a businessman in the ring. Once he enters the ring, even on a hack day, he is all business and gets the job done. However, back at his stall, he is the most mischievous horse in the world.”

Laury’s trainer, Katie, found Loxley from another trainer she often works with. They were looking for one to take her out of the long stirrups and teach her the ropes to eventually do the adults hunter divisions. The first time she met Loxley was during the Katy Fall shows in 2020. “I had been doing the long stirrups with my current horse then and my trainer just took me to the ESI ring where the modified adult hunters were set up so I could try him. He took me along the course to show me how it is done just like it was his job. I realized at that moment that we had a connection. Also, I purchased him on my husband’s birthday and we had agreed this year we would not give each other gifts and I ended up buying myself a horse on his day! It was all meant to be!”

Stud muffins are his all-time favorite treats, fitting since he is Laury’s little stud muffin! But he isn’t too picky and will eat just about anything except for bananas, he only likes them peeled.

“I am 37 years old, have a full-time job, and 2 kids. I used to ride as a kid in a small barn in France (nothing fancy) and always dreamed of competing in rated shows. I rode casually throughout college and stopped after I graduated. I got back into it a couple of years ago and bought a horse that I very much loved but was not all that suitable for me. Loxley has become a dream come true along with riding at a prestigious barn and being able to show. My favorite thing about owning horses is the complicity of working with a majestic animal, the patience, challenge and work it takes, caring for the horse. I just love the whole process.” shared Laury.
