Meet Patch, a 7-year-old Blue Heeler who lives in Bryan, TX. He is owned and loved by Kinsey.
Patch is a loyal pup with a blue with white ticking coat, a black patch over his right eye, and tan points. He was bred by Kinsey and comes from working lines. Meaning his pedigree is known to create dogs that enjoy and are good at their “jobs.” Patch’s job was being Kinsey’s service dog!
Patch was three-weeks old when he chose Kinsey to be his person. She initially chose the biggest puppy from his litter to be her service dog but her dad sold that puppy to a friend. Kinsey went to sit with the litter to decide which puppy she wanted instead and Patch crawled over to her and they quickly became attached. Patch was actually the runt (the smallest) of the litter but it’s never stopped him!
Since Kinsey has had Patch since he was born there are a lot of memories that the two of them share together. However, her favorite is one that always brings a smile to her face. One day the two were working at H-E-B in curbside. Kinsey had clocked out for lunch walking to her car and she tripped over her foot cast. Patch thought she was blacking out so he ran back into the store into their department looking for help, no one was in there so he ran over to the service counter and got someone’s attention. He successfully lead them back to her as she was walking back in the store – embarrassed about falling! She loves this embarrassing memory because this was a task she had not finished teaching him yet and he just decided that her fall was the perfect time to showcase his new, unrefined, skill he had learned.
Patch is quite the wonder dog. He is trained to respond to medical alerts and anxiety. He has won employee of the month at H-E-B in February 2020 and he is also a good canine citizen through AKC. He loves grilled chicken nuggets from Chik-Fil-A and absolutely loves Kinsey.
Kinsey’s dad bred dogs and her mom showed horses so Kinsey grew up loving both animals. She loves the fact that no matter what, your animals will be there for you. They truly look at you as if the world revolves around you. It is truly an amazing feeling to be loved by them.
Did you know Blue Heelers were bred specifically to work? This means they have a lot of energy, agility, and intelligence. They make fantastic herding dogs but would likely destroy an apartment.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. During the 2021 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Karinda photographed around 140 Horses, Dogs, and even Goats, and was able to donate $10,000 to Candlelighter’s Houston. These are the stories of the Horses, Dogs, and Goats that were photographed at the show, these stories complement a photographic book that Karinda is printing and donating to Texas Children’s Hospital featuring Portraits of each and every animal she photographed.
