Mozart is an incredibly handsome 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding and he is truly a real-life black beauty according to his owner Bekah.
Mozart is known as Mo around the barn. He is owned by the fabulous Bekah Wilson who happens to work for the saddle company Antares, you can find her around the horse shows showing her own horse and also making sure that all of the horses have saddles that fit them comfortably.
Most horses have saddles that were created and sized just for them, and just like people horses grow and their muscles change so over time they may need to get their saddle adjusted or get an entirely new saddle. Mo’s owner Bekah has a pretty important role to play in keeping horses comfy at the horse shows.
Mo was bred by Verdelen Paarden Fok, and is by Mozart des Hayettes and out of Kaldule. He was imported to the United States 7 years ago but has only been owned by Bekah for 4 years. A lot of the horses that show at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show are actually born in other countries and eventually make their way to the United States on an airplane to become show horses. I highly recommend looking up Horse on Airplanes if you haven’t seen one before! It is pretty amazing how they transport horses in airplanes.
Bekah’s favorite memory with Mo is from their first show together. He was champion in the Performance Hunters and this was Bekah’s first win at a rated show as a professional. It was the perfect start to a wonderful long-term relationship.
Mo is extremely intelligent and has a huge personality. Most people don’t know that he has a muscle disorder known as PSSM that isn’t very common. He was diagnosed with this 4 years ago and requires special care to keep him in top shape to go to the horse shows. Even with this challenge, Bekah has been able to keep him happy, healthy, and comfortable so that he can continue to perform.
This silly horse will eat pretty much anything. He is a Cookie Monster, but due to the muscle disorder he suffers from he has to have special low starch treats.
Bekah has been riding for 22 years. She was always obsessed with horses as a kid and sat on her first horse at 9 months old. The partnership and bond she gets to share with her horses is her favorite part of the sport.
Fun Fact: Most of the time, wherever a horse’s ear is pointing is where the horse is looking. If the horse’s ears are pointing in different directions, the horse is looking at two different things at the same time. Did you know horses have 10 different muscles in their ears? This allows them to rotate nearly 180 degrees and move independently from one another. Humans only have 3 muscles in their ears.
