Black Gold, Jack, is a 25-year-old Hanoverian Gelding. This mother-daughter horse & rider portrait session took place at Finnegan Farms in Aubrey, TX. Jack and Leslie now ride and train at Homeward Farms in Dallas, TX.
I just can’t even handle how previous Leslie & Hailey’s portrait session was. I may have been a little extra sappy because I was pregnant at the time with my little guy Kai, and all I could think was “I NEED A GIRL SO I CAN TAKE ADORABLE MOTHER DAUGHTER PORTRAITS WITH HER AND THE PONIES!” But who knows, maybe Kai will also catch the pony bug and we can take mother-son portraits one day with our ponies.
To ask Leslie what her favorite memory of Jack is, like many of us, how could you narrow it down to just one?!? Leslie states her favorite traits about Jack in summary, “He is the perfect gentleman and the barn statesman. If he were in politics, he’d be the Secretary of State. Stoic and reserved until he gets to know you. But once he claims a person as his, he is the biggest cuddler. He is patient beyond words and puts up with my Adult Ammy antics without so much as a pinned ear. I can’t count the number of times he has saved me when I’ve put him to a bad distance.”
Leslie shared, “I started riding again a little over two years ago in Connecticut after a ten-year break. One lesson a week turned into two. And in September of 2018, my trainer told me that Jack was coming up for lease and that he would be perfect for me. I had only been back in the saddle for three months at that point. She showed me this big, athletic warm blood. He was beautiful, but I didn’t feel like I was ready for him. Nonetheless, I agreed to do a trial lesson. Long story short, I fell in love with him in that one lesson and leased him. This spring we learned we were relocating to Dallas. I could not bear the thought of leaving my guy behind. So I bought him outright.” When an on the whim lease turns into one of the best, dearly loved purchases of a lifetime!!
