Monto is a 26 year old Spanish Barb, and he is quite an amazing horses. He is owned by Joelle who I met while at Bayside Equestrian Center when I was photographing Elegante & Ragazoo. Joelle was so excited to see the photos we were taking of them and knew she had to have some of her special boy. To say that Monto is Joelle’s heart horse would be an understatement. The connection and relationship these two share is truly one of a kind.
Often times I am in awe of the relationship that my clients share with their horses, but when I first saw Joelle with Monto I just knew this relationship was special. During the session, when I got to see these two show off Monto’s tricks it was truly exceptional to see Monto working so hard to please Joelle, and show off his spanish walk was the best. When she first started to ask him, he was like “Mom, I really don’t know about this, we are in the barn and that seems like a lot of work…I am not convinced.” After a few tried and Joelle encouraging him he finally came to life to show off how incredibly fancy he really is. I would say the best way to describe his personality would be to say he is proper gentleman, that likes to show off a little, but only when asked.
Joelle shares that her favorite memory was when Monto’s stall door was left open, but secured with a chain across the door. Monto decided to crawl under the chain. He didn’t know the trainer and two other riders were chatting nearby, he found himself confronted by the group, and before anyone could say a thing, he turned around and crawled right back under the chain and into his stall with an innocent look on his face.
Oh, and I can’t forget we had to end his session with a bow, because he loves to bow for cookies!
