MONKEY | AUSTIN, TX
Monkey belongs to Kavita Sinha who got him when he was just 6 weeks old from the Houston SPCA. Monkey is 10.5 years old and after DNA testing, has been found to be 1/2 pitbull, 1/4 chihuahua, and 1/4 other random breeds. Monkey was actually born at the SPCA after they found his pregnant mother and brought her into the shelter. You may have seen this cute brindle pup walking around with Kavita at the shows.

Monkey lives at home with Kavita and is a full time companion and adventure partner for her. Kavita has been riding horses for 25 years and loves that she finally has her own “barn dog”. She originally went to the SPCA “just to look” at dogs, and ended up finding a very messy and excited Monkey in the middle of food time. Kavita says that this was the cutest thing and in that moment she knew he was meant for her, and she was right because he has been the perfect sidekick ever since. She laughs at how he has hardly changed over the past 10 years and is still that food obsessed puppy she saw at the SPCA. Monkey will try to eat anything edible and recently has had to be limited to strictly dog food, much to his dismay. He loves greenies, snuggles, belly rubs, and sleeping UNDER the covers. He is very smart, but opinionated, and wants everything to be just how he likes it.
Kavita has two favorite memories of her sweet boy, Monkey. Kavita recalls that, “Monkey grew up at the barn and quickly learned to give horses space, but he also LOVES to run around the arena when he’s allowed to (aka when there are no horses). I’m confident enough in my horse’s comfort levels with dogs, and Monkey’s awareness, to ride with him off leash. One time I was working on my horse’s fitness and galloping her in a large grass pasture and Monkey was having the time of his life running next to her… I even caught it on video and it makes me smile every time!” Additionally, she has a humorous tale about Monkey and his first adventure with snow. “Monkey is a total wuss about the cold. Any time it’s under 70 degrees, he is shivering and just not a happy camper. My husband and I took him hiking in Colorado in the spring, and I was worried that he was going to HATE it. Turns out, he is a really good actor and LOVES the snow! When we were walking on the snow-free trail, he’d be bounding in 6in of snow and getting the zoomies. The joy on his face was absolutely adorable!”
