Meet Maggie, a sassy 5-year-old terrier mix who is owned and loved by Cara. Maggie’s mom was also showing at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, she rides with August Pines Farm.
Cara was volunteering at Austin Animal Center when she saw Maggie and immediately fell in love. Maggie was emaciated, dirty, and needed some serious dental work. However, Cara was more than happy to bring Maggie home and get her the nutrition and veterinary care she needed so badly.
Cara’s favorite memory of Maggie is on their first flight together. Cara was headed to a horse show and brought Maggie along to see how she would do. Maggie loved all of the attention from the other passengers and was even invited into the cockpit with the pilots for some photo opportunities. Cara doesn’t go to a show without her ever since!
Maggie loves to hang out on the observation deck at their training stable to ensure her brothers are behaving when Cara is riding. And she’s quick to put them in line if they get too rowdy for her liking. Maggie is Cara’s shadow at the barn and everywhere else. We all wish for a barn dog like Maggie!

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. During the 2021 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Karinda photographed around 140 Horses, Dogs, and even Goats, and was able to donate $10,000 to Candlelighter’s Houston. These are the stories of the Horses, Dogs, and Goats that were photographed at the show, these stories complement a photographic book that Karinda is printing and donating to Texas Children’s Hospital featuring Portraits of each and every animal she photographed.
