Liberty Belle M “Libby” | Hanoverian | Pin Oak Charity Horse Show

Liberty Belle M is a 15-year-old Hanoverian that lives in Magnolia, TX. She is known as Libby around the barn and owned by a little girl named Margaret. The pair trains with Laura at Little Bay Farm.

Libby is a beautiful chestnut mare with a star on her forehead. She was bred by Meredith Maye, she is by Liberty Told, and out of Antigone. In the horse world when it says, a horse is BY, that means that is their Dad’s name, and OUT OF means that is their Mom’s Name. So Libby’s Dad is Liberty Told, and her Mom is Antigone. Libby sports an extra special scar on her chest, that makes her special and unique.

Libby is the only mare in the barn, so she is the special girl in the barn. Margaret shares that one time they were heading to a show and one of the geldings (boy horses) reached out and touched her, just being friendly, and being the only girl in the barn she was highly offended! She immediately whipped around like she wanted to tell him to stay away because she prefers to keep the boys away. Now she is always the first one on the horse trailer when they go to shows so that she can avoid the boys.

Margaret shares, “My horse is sassy and does not like anyone but me. She will cuddle me and give me hugs with her neck. If anyone tries to come in her stall or talk to me when we are snuggling, she will give them the mare glare until they go away.” Although I have to admit, that I think Libby must really like having her photo taken, because she was a superstar of a horse during her portrait session at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, she stood like a statue and didn’t move a muscle until we asked. It is probably because she loves attention. Her owner calls it her, “swish” and says that when people watch her she puts an extra swing in her step. The joke is that they should rename her “Disco Diva” because that name would fit her way better than Libby.

Margaret has owned Libby for two years. This sassy horse loves Molasses and will eat anything with molasses on it.

Margaret, Libby’s owner, is 11 and has been riding since she was only 3. She asked her mom for a horse, and instead, her mom got her some horse riding lessons. She started out riding Western and even showed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo before switching to English. She loves to jump and ride super challenging courses. Like any true horse girl, even when she is not at the barn she loves to pretend to be a horse, and run around jumping with her friends.

Did you know a Mare is a girl horse, and a Gelding is a boy horse? You will see these two words used a lot as you read each horse’s story.
