Libby is the first dog that we photographed at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show. She may also be one of the most special dogs because she is owned by one of my best friends who happens to be the person responsible for introducing me to horses in 6th grade.
Libby is a 14-month-old German Shepherd, she was actually only 8 months when we took her portraits, who happens to have her very own Instagram page and a little fan club of her own. Libby is like Melanie’s other half. She goes everywhere with her from work, running, doing errands, or even barn chores. She is always right there by Melanie’s side. She is also her protector and doesn’t let strangers get too close. Although she is a dog, Melanie is certain that Libby understands everything she says. She knows at least 50 commands, including “get the ducks” which is one of her favorite things to do when she gets to the barn.
Libby’s favorite thing to do is play, she loves to fetch and tog of war.
Melanie found her online and fell in love with her at first sight, she drove 3 hours to San Antonio to pick her up and says that the drive home was heaven because she got to hold her the entire time. Although it was love at first sight, Libby gave Melanie’s husband a kiss first, which I think Melanie is still a little bitter about.
Like a true barn dog, Libby loves to eat what the horses eat, especially honey and oat bars.
“My horse couldn’t make it to Pin Oak this year, but Karinda, knowing how much I love Libby, suggested I bring her instead. Libby had an absolute blast posing for the camera and Karinda was able to capture moments that I will cherish forever. She was only 8 months old at the time and Karinda was so patient with her (it was her first horse show!) and let her take the time she needed to be comfortable with the situation. I am always impressed with the work Karinda does with the horses and she didn’t disappoint with Libby!”
