Lexington Kentucky Horse & Rider Portraits from the Traveling Texas Equine Photographer

I am so excited to share my second day in Lexington, Kentucky with all of you. At the equine photography workshop with Right Start Photography we were able to visit the gorgeous Touchstone Farm. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity we had to photograph their gorgeous dressage horses and riders. When I decided to travel to Lexington for the equine photography workshop, I assumed we would be photographing Thoroughbreds..and to my surprise we were able to visit a dressage farm!

I love Thoroughbreds and especially the rich history they hold here in Lexington, but Dressage really holds a special place in my heart. I started out riding Hunter Jumpers but soon discovered I preferred to keep all 4 hooves on the ground. Dressage was my happy place. There is something so mesmerizing about watching a dressage horse work. I could sit and watch them in the arena for hours on end. The weekends I spent in college working for Equine Productions and videoing dressage shows were some of my favorites.

The first part of the workshop I am going to share are the outdoor Horse & Rider portraits with Ashley.

I have to brag on Ashley’s fabulous clothing choice. I think she looks like something straight out of a magazine! The number one question I always receive is “What should I wear for portraits with my horse?” Well, you can not go wrong wearing breeches and a show coat for your Horse & Rider equine portrait session. It really does give your portraits a classic and timeless look. There are also ways you can spice up the traditional look, for example Ashley left her collar open on her shirt. This is a great way to have a slightly more relaxed but still polished look.

Each of my Equine Portrait sessions also includes a pre-session consultation to plan out the entire session. A huge part of this is assistance in choosing the perfect attire for the session. We will talk about your goals for the session and the type of look you are looking to achieve and then I will help guide you in selecting what to wear. I always encourage my clients to send images of anything they are thinking of wearing while they are selecting their clothes, wether you are going through your closet and trying on different things or at the store shopping. Just snap a picture and send it over to me and I will help you to decide what will photograph the best and lend to your ultimate end goal for the session.
