INSTINCT AE | 8 YEAR OLD THOROUGHBRED CROSS | BIXBY, OK

Paul, Instinct AE, is a Thoroughbred Cross Gelding. He was bred by Arroyo Escondido LLC. Paul lives and trains at Eighteen Acres Farm, and is owned by Jenn Gwartney.

Paul is a small black horse with a white blaze and three white socks. Despite his small stature, he has a larger-than-life personality that makes him stand out from the herd. Paul exudes confidence and charisma despite his size. His friendly demeanor and playful nature make him a favorite among humans and horses alike. Anyone who has met Paul can attest to the fact that he truly has the biggest personality crammed into a little horse.

Jenn found Paul through Mindy, who had him in the barn a few years ago. When December rolled around and Jenn began looking for a horse to lease, Mindy suggested Paul. Jenn started riding him and quickly fell in love with his charming personality and friendly demeanor. She was amazed at how confident and charismatic he was, despite his smaller size. From the moment she first laid eyes on him, Jenn knew that Paul was the perfect horse for her, and she felt incredibly fortunate to have found him through Mindy’s recommendation. Now, Jenn owns Paul and she couldn’t be happier.

Paul has a definite sweet tooth when it comes to treats. His absolute favorite treats are molasses treats and carrots. Whenever he sees a bag of molasses treats or a bucket of carrots, his ears perk up, and he becomes quite animated, eagerly anticipating his tasty reward. Paul loves the rich, sweet flavor of molasses treats, and the crunchiness of carrots is an irresistible treat that he simply can’t resist.

Jenn’s passion for horse riding began when she was just 10 years old. She started out riding in AQHA all-around competitions and quickly fell in love with the sport. As she got older, her passion for riding only grew stronger, and she decided to pursue it further by riding in college at Oklahoma State almost 20 years ago. After college, Jenn transitioned to the hunter-jumper world almost 10 years ago and has been riding in this discipline ever since. For her, horse riding is not just a sport or a hobby, but a way of life. It’s a way for her to connect with these magnificent animals and challenge herself physically and mentally. Jenn’s love for horse riding is evident in everything she does, and she’s grateful to have had the opportunity to pursue her passion for so many years.

Jenn has many wonderful stories about Paul but her favorite one, however, is about Paul’s sassy and playful personality. Paul loves to show off and always makes sure he gets noticed, especially in group lessons where he can showcase his jumping skills. However, in private lessons, Paul tends to be less enthusiastic and puts in less effort, as he thinks that flat work is beneath him and that he was born to jump. Despite his opinionated nature, Paul is always willing to try anything Jenn asks of him, and his eagerness to please is truly endearing. For Jenn, every moment with Paul is an adventure, and she’s grateful to have him as a partner in her horse riding journey.
