Hudson | Irish Day Farms | Houston TX | Katie Lambert

Meet Hudson, the 18-year-old Dutch Warmblood bay gelding. Hudson is owned and ridden by Lexi. He has three white socks, a star in the middle of his face with a stripe, and a snippet along his nose. The pair train with Katie Lambert at Irish Day Farms in Houston, TX, along with Lexi’s mom, Melissa, who also has a horse that we photographed at this year’s Pin Oak Charity Horse Show!

”One of my favorite memories with Hudson is from Tryon, North Carolina. I had gotten a dragon fruit drink from Starbucks and went to see him at the barn. As I was there he had his puppy dog eyes begging for some kind of treat. So, I got one of the cubed dragon fruit bites from my drink and gave him one. He was in love right away – so I gave him some more. After a few, he had eaten all the dragon fruit bites and ice from my drink…I think he was licking his tongue for about 10 minutes after.”, shares Lexi.

Lexi’s mom and old trainer found Hudson on Facebook and got him without trying him. Needless to say, Lexi was a little bit nervous at first, but everything worked out being that he was a great fit. Lexi has owned him since July of 2021. She shares the first time they met was when they went to pick him up in Dallas. “He didn’t know me at the time so he ignored me and wasn’t interested. But I was so happy and I was already in love with him!”

Hudson has such a big personality, he is very opinionated but very loving and funny. He loves any kind of treats that are passed his way and loves attention. But he really only cares for the people he knows. He didn’t even care about who I was when I first met him. “Now he neighs at me when he sees me, and lets me love on him unlike before.”, says Lexi. He loves rolling any chance he gets and especially loves when you scratch his face.

Lexi shares that she has ridden her whole life since she was born into it, as her mom also rides. Lexi shares, “I rode western growing up until 2019 when I switched to English. My favorite thing about horses is creating a different bond with each one of them. They all have different opinions, likes, and personalities.”
