Major is an 11-year-old Selle France Cross mare. She is owned and cared for by Halyna. The dynamic duo trains at Elmstead Farm with Britt McCormick in Parker, TX.
Major is a beautiful dark bay with just a whisper of a white stripe down her face. Part of her pedigree actually traces back to the famed Secretariat! Major is a mare with a ton of personality and an eager-to-please attitude with her rider.
Halyna was introduced to Major when she was being trialed by someone else. She decided to try her out for herself and immediately fell in love. One of Halyna’s favorite memories of Major was how she reacted when she was brought back home after being on trial with someone else. Major wasn’t in great shape upon her return and when Halyna got her out of the trailer she hand grazed her and Major laid down right there and rolled with a sigh of relief to be home.
Halyna has loved horses for as long as she can remember. She always begged her mom for a horse and in 2015 on Christmas, she and her sister were surprised with their first horse, Remi. Since then Halyna has owned and ridden horses. She even became a working student so she could learn as much about horses and showing as possible. There isn’t a single aspect of having horses that Halyna doesn’t enjoy.
Did you know Secretariat holds the record for the fastest Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont races? The three races are considered the “Triple Crown” in racing. Winning all three is an incredible feat and one that Secretariat did spectacularly.
