Dallas Equine Photographer | Kingston the Irish Sport Horse
Kingston, Kingston MacDubh, is an Irish Sport Horse Gelding. His sire is Flagmount King who is by Kind of Diamonds, and his dam is a Thoroughbred. Both his sire and grandsire were multiple Grand Prix winning show jumpers in Europe. They also represented Ireland on many Nations Cup teams. He was bred by Gerard Flemming in Tipperary, Ireland.
Kingston is a total character. Everyone who meets him loves him as he has a kind, gentle personality but can be fiery too. He also has a great sense of humor. He is the boss horse when out in the paddocks with other horses but loves looking after the baby goats at the farm. His owner Patsi describes him in one word as a “gentleman.” His favorite treats are carrots, which is fitting since he lives at Chloe Cosgrove’s barn and she gives all the horses at the barn a nightly carrot.
Patsi and Kingston used to do showjumping and event together. Kingston is totally fearless jumping, never stopped once in all the years I have had him. A machine. He finds lower level dressage boring but the higher level stuff is fascinating. Kingston is a typical Irish horse, so he thinks a lot and you have to keep him busy!
“I found him as a 4 year old in Ireland while living there. My jumping trainer, Dan Foley, saw him and said ‘go see this one, I think he’s the one’. And he was right! I brought him to the US when I moved here 7 years ago, we’ve been together for 12 years now. He was a bit of a firebrand for the first couple of years I had him, but the feeling I got riding from the very first day was incredible. He made you feel you could do anything together, and over the years we have.”
Kingston is a true all round horse, he can jump, do cross country and dressage. He also hunted a few times when younger. Kingston won lots of different competitions and championships in Ireland, both jumping and in dressage. Represented Ireland in England at the Riding Clubs Championships. Since moving to the US, Patsi and Kingston got their USDF bronze medal together and are working towards our silver. “For a horse bred to jump he is pretty amazing!”
Patsi has been a horse fanatic her entire life. It started in her late teens. “I have been showjumping and eventing horses for over 30 years. Now competing in dressage only as I don’t bounce like I used to! Keeping horses keeps me grounded, nothing like the bond between a horse and a human when you know they will do anything for you and you for them.”
Patsi’s favorite product to use on Kingston is Ventrolin shampoo and liniment. It is so good after a workout as it really eases tight muscles and the horses love it. Patsi, also loves Back on Track products, for both Kingston and herself.
Patsi says she has too many favorite stories to tell! “I have owned several wonderful horses over the years, but Kingston is a true heart horse. He has gotten me out of trouble jumping numerous times, and never loses his sense of humor. He even saved my neck on more than one occasion, putting me back in the plate after a dodgy jump. I would trust him with my life.”
I love it that I can show a little comparison of Kingston before and after being body clipped! I actually have this conversation with clients a ton about the advantaged of clipping your horse before their pictures.
