DAISY | 10 YEAR-OLD POODLE MIX | HOUSTON, TX
Daisy is a white Poodle mix who is owned by Charlotte, who possesses a set of unique characteristics that make her an exceptional dog. Her gentle nature sets her apart, as she interacts with the utmost care and tenderness. Growing up in a household filled with various animals, Daisy developed a special connection with one of the family’s guinea pigs, Meatball. Instead of perceiving him as a mere pet, Daisy embraced Meatball as one of her own pups. She would lovingly allow him to explore her, as well as groom him and engage in gentle play. Witnessing their heartwarming bond filled Daisy’s family with immense joy and highlighted her extraordinary qualities. Not once did she hurt Meatball, and whenever she wished to visit him, she would excitedly stand before his enclosure, wagging her tail in anticipation. Daisy’s unwavering kindness and ability to forge unexpected friendships exemplify her exceptional character as a remarkable canine companion.
Charlotte, Daisy’s owner, fondly recalls the heartwarming story of how she found their beloved companion. A decade ago, when Charlotte was just seven years old, her family made the decision to adopt Daisy from an animal shelter. Daisy’s journey to their home was quite remarkable, as she had been rescued from a devastating flood back in 2013. The first moments with Daisy were filled with surprise and amusement. Upon bringing her home, Daisy appeared unusually quiet, exhibiting a demeanor reminiscent of a feline. Amused by Daisy’s reserved nature, Charlotte’s father jokingly remarked, “Does she do anything?” playfully convinced that they had welcomed a cat-dog into their lives. This light-hearted memory remains a cherished part of their family’s story, highlighting the joy and humor that Daisy has brought into their lives over the years.
Beyond being a beloved family pet, Daisy has showcased her photogenic qualities and charismatic personality by modeling for several small businesses. Her adorable presence and photogenic charm have graced promotional materials, which help local enterprises capture the attention and hearts of their customers. Moreover, Daisy’s star quality truly shone when she earned the coveted spot on the cover of the 2019 HSPCA Calendar, a prestigious recognition of her undeniable appeal. Daisy’s modeling endeavors and her calendar cover achievement serve as testaments to her natural beauty and captivating presence, leaving a lasting impression wherever she goes.
Charlotte, Daisy’s owner, holds a cherished memory of their bond that goes beyond ordinary companionship. In 6th grade, Charlotte experienced a traumatic brain injury that led to two years of hospital visits and treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH). During this challenging period, Daisy exhibited a remarkable sense of attachment and protectiveness towards Charlotte, seemingly aware of her illness. As Charlotte endured the ordeal of a prolonged undiagnosed condition, she sadly lost touch with many of her friends due to her extended absences from school. However, throughout this difficult time, Daisy emerged as Charlottes’s unwavering best friend. Despite spending much of her day in bed, battling pain and exhaustion, she found solace and purpose in training Daisy. Together, they embarked on a unique journey, with Charlotte teaching Daisy various commands in German. Their training sessions became moments of joy and accomplishment, as Daisy learned to perform unconventional tasks like closing doors, jumping onto Charlottes’s back, and balancing on objects such as books. This extraordinary connection between Charlotte and Daisy exemplifies the resilience and unbreakable bond that can form between humans and their four-legged companions, even in the face of adversity.
