Dahlia | Houston Polo Club Equine Portraits

Dahlia is owned by Chloe and rides at the Houston Polo Club with Flanders Polo & Riding Lessons. She is a 15-year-old Dutch Sport Horse.

Dahlia has a huge personality and is so fun to have at the barn. She is so sweet and caring, and always tries her best, even if something is difficult for her. No matter what, Chloe says she knows Dahlia just wants to take care of her. She shares, “Dahlia loves treats, hay, and about any food she can get. Every time I give her a treat, I play a game with her where I put the treat in one hand behind my back, and I try to get her to guess which hand it’s in. She used to always guess the wrong one, but now she is pretty good at it!”

This silly horse loves Peppermints and Apples.

“My favorite memory with Dahlia is going to horse camp with her. We both had so much fun going on trail rides, playing fun games, swimming together in the pond, morning bareback rides, and evening lessons where we would jump. We even tried cross country for the first time and had so much fun. The first year of camp right after I bought her really helped us bond and learn to trust each other, and she helped boost my confidence with jumping.”

“My favorite thing about Dahlia has to be her ears. She has the biggest ears I have ever seen on a horse, therefore earning her the nickname “Donkey”. It’s not only how big her ears are though, but it’s also the way that she holds them. No matter what, her ears are never perked up, they are always sticking straight out on each side. We call them her airplane ears.”

Chloe found Dahlia through my trainer. She bought her on May 7th, 2019 after trying her once a few days before. She was her 13th birthday present, and the first horse she had ever tried. When they first met we connected immediately, “when I woke up the next morning I knew that she was the one and I had to get her vet checked before it was too late. I have now owned her for 2 years and she has been such an amazing teacher and will forever be my heart horse”

Chloe is 15 years old and has been riding since she was 6. She started riding lessons after her friend brought a blue ribbon that she had won at a horse show to show and tell in 1st grade. She asked her mom for riding lessons, and like so many horse girls, the rest is history! “Dahlia was her first horse that I got for my 13th birthday, and it has been so fun owning her. Even though there have been ups and downs, she still is the best teacher I could’ve asked for. My favorite thing about owning horses is the connection you get with them over time and learning something new about them every time you ride.”
