Crooked Arrow Farm | White Background Portrait Photographer | Chapulin “Kevin”

Chapulin, is leased by Amy and goes by “Kevin.” Kevin is a 14-year-old Holsteiner. Kevin and Amy train together at Crooked Arrow Farm.

Amy says that Kevin is definitely a super weird animal. He is spooky in a somewhat normal way but weirdly brave in situations she would not expect him to be. He is very particular about the horses and the people he likes to spend time with. He belongs to her trainer, who offered to let Amy borrow him while my now-retired showjumper was being diagnosed with kissing spine. It turned out that the jumper needed to be fully retired and that Kevin and she got along well. She’s now been leasing and showing him for over 2 years. They are really a perfect match and exactly what the other needs!

Choosing a favorite memory of their partnership was particularly hard for Amy. She says he’s just really special and it’s been a wonderful journey gaining his trust and watching herself become better every time she either rides him or simply shows up to take care of him. He has taken her to her first division champion ribbon, her first national hunter derby, and her first show in Florida. They have also done so many fun and seemingly insignificant things that she wasn’t sure he would ever let her do like swimming in the lake on a trail ride.  It’s all been wonderful.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. During the 2021 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Karinda photographed around 140 Horses, Dogs, and even Goats, and was able to donate $10,000 to Candlelighter’s Houston. These are the stories of the Horses, Dogs, and Goats that were photographed at the show, these stories complement a photographic book that Karinda is printing and donating to Texas Children’s Hospital featuring Portraits of each and every animal she photographed.
