Corduroy “Nelson” | Czech Warmblood | Pine Hollow Farm New Caney, TX

Corduroy is a 6-year-old Czech Warmblood who lives in New Caney, TX. His barn name is Nelson, and he is owned by the kindest woman, Meg. Over in New Caney is where the pair trains with Will Roberts at Pine Hollow Farm.

Nelson is a dashingly handsome chestnut gelding with a small white star on his face and a single white sock. (Sounds silly, a horse with a sock! This just means that Nelson has one foot with white on his foot/ankle.) Nelson’s sire is Aristo Z and dam is Majka. When we say a horse’s SIRE is that means that this is their Dad’s name, and when we say a horse’s DAM is that means that this is their Mom’s name. So, Nelson’s Dad is Aristo Z and his Mom is Majka.

Meg shares, “Nelson is the sweetest and most cuddly horse in the whole world. At Pin Oak last year when Karinda took his pictures, we had only had him for a week or two. I didn’t know how lazy he was yet, so I got nervous that he was laying down in his stall almost 100% of the time. One time I went into his stall and he didn’t pick up his head so I was terribly worried. I walked in and offered him a carrot just to see if he’d be interested, and of course, he ate several of them but kept his head completely on the ground. He then picked it up and put it right into my lap so he could continue his nap with me hugging him.”

Meg describes Nelson’s personality as one of a kind-hearted old man. Think of the sweetest grandpa and you’ve hit the nail on the head! Considering Nelson has an old soul – you would never believe he’s only 6. With age comes wisdom and confidence. Although Nelson is only 6, these are just a few characteristics that he sure isn’t lacking. Meg shares, “Nelson is very brave and never spooky, but he really likes to have other horses around him for confidence with new things. He loves having his buddies around. I trust him with my life. I know he will always jump, will never spook, and certainly, never run away!”

Meg has owned Nelson for almost 2 years now. Meg’s trainer, Will, found Nelson in Ocala in March of 2020. Nelson had only been in the US for two weeks when she tried him and she shared, “he was just the same as he is now – quiet and perfect”. Meg shared with us that even though she tried many more seasoned horses (in other words older &/or have been in training longer), she felt most comfortable with him.

Nelson absolutely LOVES any and all treats and snacks! When we asked Meg what his all-time favorite snack was she told us, “Nelson would literally eat anything, he’s a garbage disposal!” But of course, he loves all the basic treats like carrots, Mrs. Pastures horse cookies, apples…the list could go on and on!

Did you know that there are only two base colors in horses: black and red (chestnut)? Every other color is a modified version of one of these two colors. Chestnut horses are also very wise.
