Cordelia is a 2-year-old Oldenburg who lives at Bailey Acres in Hockley, TX, which is actually the home of her loving owner and rider, Barbara. On the farm at Bailey Acres, the pair, Cordelia and Barbara train with Rob Moyar, and Abby Jeter is Cordelia’s handler.
Cordelia is a stunning bay mare bred by Barbara. She is by the renowned hunter stallion, Westporte, and out of Barbara’s former amateur mount, Coriana who is by Coriano. These names are important because it allows us to know the bloodlines of the horse. This tells us the potential this horse may have based on the success of its parents. Just like your parents may have been good at sports and now you’re good at sports, horses can inherit those same traits.
Cordelia is a special girl and one of Barbara’s favorite memories of her was when she was just a foal and on her mother’s side. Every morning they would greet her in the barn with a knicker all while nuzzling one another. Cordelia is what Barbara refers to as an ‘old soul.’ Barbara says this about her personality on the show grounds; ‘She demands attention, when walking around the show grounds she has become accustomed to people telling her how pretty she is. She is the easiest baby we’ve brought along, truly an old soul. When she isn’t a fan of something we’re doing, she snarls her nostrils and gives us a side-eye. A mild reaction compared to other baby antics!’
Cordelia was special from the moment she was born and Barbara was there when it happened. She was a quick birth and she was quickly up and nursing. There hasn’t been a moment that she didn’t feel loved. She loves people and attention and Barbara always ends her night with a kiss on Cordelia’s nose. Barbara is very excited about the future Cordelia has in the show ring. Cordelia has already won the 2020 Zone 7 Champion her yearling year and won the THJA Shine trophy for the highest scoring Best Young Horse.
Barbara has been riding since the age of 6 and dreamed of owning a horse farm. When she retired she decided now was the time to do it! When she moved to Texas she got back into the sport and has loved being back in the community for over 20 years.
Did you know a foal is a baby horse? Cordelia would be considered a ‘”filly,” a girl baby horse, and a “colt” would be a boy baby horse.
