Chacco Lait “Chacco” | Elmstead Farm | Oldenburg

Chacco Lait is a 14-year-old Oldenburg that lives in Lucas, TX. His barn name (which is like a nickname) is “Chacco.” He is owned and loved by Avery. They train with Britt McCormick at Elmstead Farm.

Chacco is a lovely bay, Oldenburg, with a faint white star on his forehead. Horses have different characteristics that help them stand out from one another. One horse may have a star, a small patch of white in the middle of their forehead, while another horse may have a blaze, a long stripe of white down the middle of their face. Chacco is by Zucchetta by Zeus and out of Chacco Blue.

Chacco is a bit on the smaller side for a Grand Prix jumper. Most jumpers are tall and lean so they are able to maneuver a jump course quickly and efficiently. The taller horses are able to go further with fewer strides so they’re often chosen for jumpers. However, Chacco gives Avery 120% when they’re in the ring and even gave Avery a double clear at the Final Chase horse show in 2020. A double clear means that Avery and Chacco ran and jumped a course and didn’t knock down a single jump. Chacco has what horse people call a lot of heart. He is completely unaware that he’s any smaller than his competition and gives it his all in every class.

Avery’s favorite thing about owning horses is learning their personalities. Much like you and your friends have different personalities, horses have different personalities. Chacco is a horse that enjoys naps in his stall and sweet potatoes for treats, but once he’s taken out of his stall he becomes really excited.

Avery began riding at the age of 8 at a summer camp and has been hooked ever since. She got her first pony when she was 11 and has been training diligently for the last 11 years making sure her horses get the best care possible in order for them to perform well in the ring.

Did you know that horses have something called a ‘frog’ on their hoof? It is full of nerves so that a horse knows where his feet are when walking. It also helps with traction in various terrain.
