CAVADOS QUO | 4-YEAR-OLD WESTPHALIAN GELDING | SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
Meet Cavados, the 4-year-old Westphalian known in the show ring as Cavados Quo. With his stunning dark bay coat, two half socks in front, and two full socks in back, Cavados is a standout at Oakwell Farms in San Antonio, TX, where he trains under the expert guidance of Whitney LaBrie. Oakwell Farms is renowned for its excellent care and top-notch training programs, providing a perfect home for Cavados and his rider, Renee Lavender.
Renee shares a heartwarming story about one of her favorite memories with Cavados. “When I had first gotten Cavados, we still lived in Germany, where it’s common for people to go on walks with their horses in the woods or fields. My husband came out to the stable to see him, and it was a nice enough day to go for a walk. Cavados was still three at this point, and I was unsure of how he would behave, but my husband (not horsey) insisted on walking him. The memory of my new baby horse walking so nicely next to my husband is one of my favorites, giving me a glimpse of what the next 20+ years might hold, and how special it is sharing the passion of your life with those you love.”
Renee’s trainer in Germany found Cavados. He had bought another 3-year-old from the same farm in North Germany and knew that the dam had produced three other horses that were doing hunters in the USA. Renee met Cavados for the first time when she tried him at the farm in Nordrhine-Westfalen and knew instantly that he was the one.
Cavados is a people horse, always seeking attention and loving interaction. He enjoys having his ears and face rubbed and will put his head down to receive those rubs. His favorite treat is bananas, and he eagerly looks forward to them.
Renee’s passion for horses began at 13 years old at a summer camp with a riding program. Since then, she has leased horses for years and even worked as a groom when she was younger. “I’ve only been a horse owner for a little over a year, but my favorite thing about owning horses is having a place to retreat to and the community of like-minded people,” she shares.
Being part of the equestrian community and going to shows with her horse has always been Renee’s dream. “I feel so fortunate to be living it now and am looking to make the most of every moment,” she says.
