Cassandra 157 is a 24-year-old Warmblood who resides in Tomball, TX, and is called “Cassie” around the barn. Cassie is owned by Shelby Patenella but at the time of Pin Oak, she was shown and leased by Grace. The duo trains at Marlac Farms with Martien Van Der Hoeven.
Cassie is a stately-looking bay mare with flecks of grey around her eyes, giving away her age just a smidge. She also has two white socks and a white star perfectly placed in the middle of her forehead. Grace has leased Cassie for about 9 months at the time of Pin Oak and has loved every minute of it. One of Grace’s favorite memories of Cassie is when Grace had taken a two-week break from riding and when she got back on Cassie she knew Cassie was happy to be back at work. Grace definitely feels like Cassie misses her when she is away.
Grace loves Cassie’s canter and said it feels like you’re rocking in a lazy boy it’s so smooth. When Grace and Cassie entered their first show they won champion in both of the classes they competed in. Cassie is well-traveled too, she has lived in Singapore and Brazil! Grace says she is a sweet horse who she would describe as “spectacular.”
Grace began riding in the 6th grade and has fallen in love with it. She hasn’t owned a horse yet but has loved the experience that leasing Cassie has given her.
In loving memory of Cassandra 157. Cassandra passed away this Fall leaving behind a huge hole in the hearts of so many horse girls. After being in Shelby’s life for 17 years and teaching countless riders to ride, she will be forever missed. This horse lived an incredibly special life from trotting cross rails to carrying Shelby around the 1.40m when she was a teenager. She was truly an angel of a horse for so many.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. During the 2021 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Karinda photographed around 140 Horses, Dogs, and even Goats, and was able to donate $10,000 to Candlelighter’s Houston. These are the stories of the Horses, Dogs, and Goats that were photographed at the show, these stories complement a photographic book that Karinda is printing and donating to Texas Children’s Hospital featuring Portraits of each and every animal she photographed.
