This last year my very own senior horse Tavi will turn 30, and he happens to share the same birth year as me, so that means we both turn 30 this year! It seemed only fitting to celebrate this milestone by giving back and photographing 30 horses over the age of 30 and sharing their incredible stories with the world. I know that I have stories a mile long from my journey with Tavi, from falling off of him the very first time I rode him, to the 10 times he has tried to kill himself in one way or another but somehow keeps bouncing back.
I set out in 2020 to photograph 30 horses over the age of 30, but COVID happened and derailed my plans. Although the few senior horses I was able to photograph were some of my absolute favorite sessions of the year. I am so excited to share their portraits and stories with all of you.
I traveled all over to photograph 30 over 30. For this session, I was going through Missouri on my Annual Road Trip and was able to photograph Lisa and her sweet man Casper. Lisa is the long-time loving owner of 36-year-old Casper who is a Paint Quarter Horse. Casper spends his best-retired life at the beautiful Notting Hill Farm in Des Peres, Missouri, where we did our session.
Lisa has owned Casper for 25 years now since she was 11-years-old and found him in a newspaper ad and is still great friends with his previous owners. The day Lisa went to go try Casper she took her trainer with her, Lisa hopped on and it was hunting season at the time. Gun shots started to fire and Casper was perfect…the rest was history! Casper is a very personable, happy horse who knows no stranger. He has taught lessons, and still to this day canters around and loves to play! Casper has been around the block and knows a thing or two, to say the least…he’s done hunters, jumpers, eventing, dressage, and trail rides. Casper is Lisa’s first horse, her heart horse, her soulmate.
