Calvin | Brawley Farms | Bob Brawley

Calvin is a handsome grey gelding who I photographed while at Pin Oak in 2020. He was such a gentleman – a gentle giant – as they say. One of the things that I loved when photographing Calvin was how flexible he was during our session. He is such a big horse with long features and it was amazing being able to get him to get comfortable and stretch out his neck and turn to either side of his body. This allowed me to be able to get some incredibly detailed shots of his picture-perfect braids and the most adorable ears! I especially loved the details in his body I was able to capture, all along his neck and sides he has what are like freckles in horses that give him a special identifying feature.

Calvin lives at Brawley Farms in Double Oak, TX where he and his rider Meribeth train with Bob Brawley. Trainer Bob Brawley has over 30 years of experience in the Hunter/Jumper world, whose equestrian career has been extremely successful. Bob started training and showing in Oregon under the guidance of his mother, Judy Brawley. Together they ran a show barn that included a string of hunters, jumpers, juniors, and amateurs.

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. During the 2021 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Karinda photographed around 140 Horses, Dogs, and even Goats, and was able to donate $10,000 to Candlelighter’s Houston. These are the stories of the Horses, Dogs, and Goats that were photographed at the show, these stories complement a photographic book that Karinda is printing and donating to Texas Children’s Hospital featuring Portraits of each and every animal she photographed.
