Vernon G, is owned by Kelsey, and he lives at Step by Step Farm in Dripping Spring,TX right outside of Austin, TX. Vernon is at 17 year old Dutch Warmblood, he is truly a once in a lifetime horse for Kelsey, you can just tell how much she loves him by the way she talks about him and loves on him. He has the sweetest personality and is slightly goofy, he truly left an impact on me the second I walked up to his stall.
Kelsey shares that all of her favorite memories of him are of him misbehaving, “he has too much energy, and he can do crazy things…but no matter how wild he is, each time before we go into the ring he will stand perfectly still and watch the horse in the arena ahead of him.” She says he knows when it is show time, and he is very perceptive.
The pair shows in the 1.30 Jumpers up to the Grand Prix Level and they train with Gigi Hewitt. I was lucky enough to see the pair at Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy shortly after Vernon’s portrait session, and I didn’t even recognize him under saddle. It always amazes me how the littlest horses in the barn, can look so different and have such a huge presence under saddle. This little guy (well he isn’t actually that little) blew me away!
