Braz has a special place in my heart as he is the old guy of one of my best friends that I met in College. Rebecca, his owner, and I first met in college at Texas A&M University when we were members of the Horse Judging Team. In true horse girl fashion, we soon ended up at the barn together and this eventually led to me bringing my horse, Lucy, up to college. I don’t think I will ever forget the night I was riding my horse and wasn’t paying much attention to what else was going on at the end of the arena, I finally looked over to see my husband, boyfriend at the time, on Braz bareback. I literally almost fell off my horse. My husband isn’t a horse person at all, don’t get me wrong he is an awesome horse husband and does an insanely great time helping with them, but he tends to stay on the ground and not on their back.  Braz, well lets just say he is a roping and barrel horse at heart and he likes to run. He likes to run a lot.

My other favorite story about Braz is when I realized how bomb proof my horse, Lucy, could actually be. One night we were riding, and Rebecca decided she was going to run a barrel pattern full speed and show all of us what Braz could really do. Well, she ran the pattern, and I was standing in the corner of the arena, I can still remember the very moment I realized that Braz wasn’t stopping, and he was coming straight for me and Lucy. We were standing in the corner, I was bracing for the worst expecting my little prissy Dressage horse to jump out of her skin. Much to my surprise Lucy stood there perfectly still and didn’t even flinch, and sure enough Braz decided it wasn’t such a good idea to run straight to her and veered off. I think this was one of those times where we as riders totally underestimate what our horses are capable of. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Lucy was capable to being calm, cool, and collected with a barrel horse running straight at her, but boy was I wrong.

Rebecca says Braz is the sweetest, smartest horses that she has owned, and he has always been there for her. He is truly her best friend and has been through the most difficult times in life with her. He is a genuine and honest horse that always gives 1000%. He loves his job and even at the prime age of 23 still loves to work and be ridden or even just groomed. He loves cookies and will follow Rebecca anywhere, because lets be honest he just loves attention.

The pair barrel races, and Braz is such a fast and powerful horse. He loves to run, if you couldn’t tell from my story above. He gets that “game face” on when it is time to go. Although he is retired after a bout of difficult injuries you can still tell that in his eyes he wants to run.

Rebecca has owned Braz since her freshman year of high school, this was over 10 years ago. The first time Rebecca met Braz it was freezing cold and he stepped out of the trailer for Rebecca to try him out. She instantly thought he was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, and was a giant. All she could think of is how powerful and perfect he was. Rebecca has been riding since she was in the third grade. Although Braz wasn’t her first horse to own, he is by far the most special horse to her. Some of her favorite memories with Braz are summers spent at the ranch taking him swimming in the river and riding all over the ranch.

Rebeccas best kept secret when it comes to her horses is using homemade fly spray.
