Atlas is a stunning dappled grey gelding loved and owned by Laura Mcnear.
This dynamic duo trains at Flanders Polo & Riding Lessons in Houston, TX. You might be thinking Flanders Polo & Riding sounds familiar, well you’re right! I photographed another horse at the Pin Oak Charity Show 2020 who is also from this barn, and chances are you read her story. Her name’s Dahlia.
Flanders Polo & Riding has many incredible trainers with all impressively phenomenal backgrounds. Two of which specifically are in the Hunter/Jumper world, Taylor Morris & Jackie Mask. Taylor began riding at a very young age as both of her parents were involved in the equestrian world. “She then became involved with USPC and IEA where she promptly found her way into the show ring. She has been competing hunters and jumpers since her junior years and recently stepped into a professional position teaching. Apart from being an instructor, Taylor’s passion is developing young horses and bringing them up the levels.” Taylor is head of Flanders hunter/jumper show program.
As for Jackie, she started riding as a child and then worked her way up to eventing. “She worked as a private groom after school to support her passion. In college she continued working as a groom at Dark Hollow Farm, learning about raising foals, prepping yearlings for the Keeneland sale, and ultimately falling in love with thoroughbreds. Today she appreciates a slow and positive approach to training people and horses. She manages cross-country schoolings for students and attends eventing, dressage, and hunter/jumper shows.”

Portraits for Charity was an idea Karinda dreamt up to help give back to families impacted by Childhood Cancer in memory of her husband’s sister Jessica. During the 2021 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Karinda photographed around 140 Horses, Dogs, and even Goats, and was able to donate $10,000 to Candlelighter’s Houston. These are the stories of the Horses, Dogs, and Goats that were photographed at the show, these stories complement a photographic book that Karinda is printing and donating to Texas Children’s Hospital featuring Portraits of each and every animal she photographed.
