Moxie is an 11-year-old Paint Thoroughbred Mare. Her sire is RFF Blackjack, who was a World Champion Show Jumper at Paint Worlds.

Moxie, is very loud and demonstrative. She can be very picky about her people and is snuggly and affectionate to those in her inner circle. Laura and Moxie do Western Horsemanship and Dressage, the pair also does some Classical Dressage and Show Jumping. The pair trains with Catherine Campbell of Austin Equestrian Center.

“I found Moxie two years ago through my trainer Catherine. During my first month of lessons, Catherine asked me about my riding goals and I rattled off a long list of English and Western riding goals including getting back into eventing and that I wanted to buy a horse. Her response was “I sold your horse!” She barely knew me at the time, but she described my perfect horse and said she had sold her just a few months earlier. We ran into the new owners out at Pine Hill and I followed them on Facebook. I saw a message that they were looking to downsize their herd. I messaged them to see if they would consider selling Moxie and they said yes, but that she was not sound. I bought her through that Facebook message and then had to tell Catherine, Um…I bought a horse! We picked her up the next week and I was blown away by how beautiful she was and by her sweet personality and athleticism.”

At their first show together the pair won a Senior Dressage Championship.

Laura rode a horse for the first time when she was a toddler. She started Barrel racing when she was twelve and then switched to eventing when she was fourteen.

Laura’s shares her tips for horses, “I use lots of patience when training. I get plenty of opportunities to practice! And I use lots of elbow grease when grooming.”

“My favorite memory with Moxie is our first show together. We completed four Western dressage tests at Dripping Springs Ranch Park. Penny (from Graymar) put on good shows and we had so much fun. When I got my score sheets back and found out that we had won Senior champion I lost it emotionally. I was so happy for Moxie. When she came to me I didn’t know if she would ever be sound and I was so proud of her that day. She always gives me 110% – every practice ride, every lesson, every clinic, and every show. To have her recognized for that, for all that hard work, right off the bat, was overwhelming and wonderful.”
