CALLOWAY | 12-YEAR-OLD HOLSTEINER GELDING | AUSTIN, TEXAS
Meet Ralph, the 12-year-old Holsteiner known in the show ring as Calloway. With his charming small bay coat and a snip, Ralph is a standout at Madrone Ranch Stables in Austin, TX, where he trains under the guidance of Rachel Lindsey and the assistant trainers. Ralph is owned by Cassandra MacIntyre and leased/ ridden by Elle Reinarz.
Elle Reinarz, who leases Ralph, shares the exciting story of how she met him. Ralph was at a barn in Northern California owned by a former assistant trainer at Madrone Ranch. Plans were made to try him at the Desert Horse Park in Thermal. “The minute I saw him, I felt an instant connection. I knew that as a team I could learn a lot from him and we would take care of each other,” Elle recalls. It was a collaborative effort involving many people who helped Elle in her riding career.
Ralph was imported by Cassandra MacIntyre, who was once an assistant trainer at Madrone Ranch and had moved to California. Cassandra was working with Ralph in the hunter ring. After getting in touch with Cassandra, Elle’s trainers decided to see if Ralph would be a good fit for Elle. They flew to Thermal to try him, and it was an instant connection. “Love when the horse world collides and things come full circle. It was meant to be!” says Elle.
Ralph, with his sweet puppy-dog personality, is loved by everyone at the barn. He excels in the hunter ring and enjoys his job. Ralph’s favorite treats include bananas and Starbucks Strawberry Lemonades.
Elle’s passion for riding began at the age of four at Red Arena in Dripping Springs, a hippotherapy program for speech and occupational therapy. Once she “graduated,” she continued riding, progressing from summer camp to lessons and then to showing. She can’t imagine life without horses.
