CHEEKY BLUE MH | 7 YEAR OLD GERMAN SPORT HORSE | AUSTIN, TX

Cheeky, Cheeky Blue MH, is a 7 year old German Sport Horse mare. Cheeky is out of Chacoon Blue X Cento and is owned by Mackenzie Hudson. Mackenzie keeps Cheeky with Gina Piccinni at Hilltop Farm and rides for More Horses LLC where Lacy Hudson (her mom) is her trainer.

Cheeky is a chestnut with white spots on her neck, chin, and stomach. She has a blaze, a front sock, two back stockings, and a pink nose! Cheeky has a puppy dog personality and loves to get attention. She feels like everyone is her best friend and will stick her tongue out in the cross ties at anyone who walks by! She also loves to be scratched and finding things to chew on. She would love nothing more than for her adoring fans to bring her one of her favorite treats like bananas, apples, carrots, or cookies.

Mackenzie has owned Cheeky for two years, since February 2022, after importing her from Germany at the beginning of her five year old year. Mackenzie and her mom purchased her off of videos and the recommendation of a friend after he rode her. When Cheeky was released from quarantine, she caught a ride to Houston with a few horses heading to TKO Sporthorses. Mackenzie and her mom stayed up late to meet her there when she arrived, so they were able to give her a bag of carrots and let her settle in! Over the past two years, Cheeky has transitioned from the jumper ring to the hunter ring and this past winter, she won Desert Circuit Champion in the Adult Hunters 18-36 in Thermal, California.

Mackenzie started riding horses at 4 years old because her older sister was taking lessons and she would tag along, hoping one day they would let her join. When she was 6 years old, she finally got her first pony. At that point she recalls being too scared to ride without being led around, but when her sister went to a show and won a bag of candy, she felt determined to ride by herself. Her favorite thing about owning horses is simply the horses! She says she would be happy to feed her horses treats and pet them all day long but with that being said, she still enjoys the training aspect of the sport as well. “My favorite thing about the equestrian sport is how versatile you have to be as an athlete. Each horse is different. You may wish to accomplish the same goal with two different horses, but how you navigate accomplishing that goal, varies from horse to horse.”

Mackenzie’s favorite memory with Cheeky is, “The day we turned her into a hunter! When she was imported, the plan was for her to be my “up and coming” jumper but as we moved her up the divisions, she started jumping too big. We moved her into the hunters at WEF 2023 to take the pressure off, but we had no idea how much she’d love it! She walked away with ribbons her first week as a hunter at the biggest show in the country. I am not a hunter rider so this really was a testament to her natural talent. We have learned, and continue to learn, so much from one another.”
