RAGTIME| 15 YEAR OLD KWPN GELDING| DALLAS, TX
Skip, Ragtime, is a KWPN gelding. Skip is owned by Tyler Kennedy, and is leased and ridden by Alexis “Lexi” Corniello. The pair trains at TML Equestrian.
Skip is a chestnut brown horse with a white blaze on the bridge of his nose. The contrasting colors of white and brown make Skip stand out in the crowd. Along with the white blaze on his nose, Skip’s nose also has pink on it. While the rest of Skip’s body is chestnut, Skip also has three white socks that surround three of his feet.
Lexi shares that his handsome features are not the only things that make him unique though. Lexi shares that his personality is what makes him truly special. Lexi explains, “He truly has the best heart and loves his job, but he’s an absolute doofus on the ground and that’s what makes him so fun. He’s a very enthusiastic snacker who loves to drink beer. If anyone opens a can within 50 feet of him, he’s eyeing you down until he’s offered a sip (unknowing what’s even in the can, in his mind all cans are beer cans). Since he came from an auction where his previous owners were abusive, I give him whatever he wants. He deserves it all and then some. He has learned this and after warming up + every course in our lesson will whip his head around and stay there until I put a treat in his mouth.”
Skip was originally found at an auction. After being brought home from the auction, he became a riding lesson horse. Lexi ended up getting to ride Skip for a horse lesson. Lexi knew that just riding Skip for horse lessons was not enough for her, so she decided to lease Skip, and the two have been inseparable ever since.
When it comes to treats, there isn’t anything that Skip won’t eat. He loves getting any kind of snack whether it is chips, candy, horse treats, or anything else. Any kind of snack that Lexi brings out for Skip gets him so enthusiastic. However, some of Skip’s favorite foods are sour patch kids and cotton candy.
Lexi started riding when she was nine. It all started when she attended a little girl horse summer camp. The camp had a western theme, and she realized she even wanted to learn how to jump as well. This camp left a lasting impact on Lexi, and now she’s jumping 15 years later!
Lexi shares that her favorite memory with Skip occurred after she rode Skip for three years in college. “He was a lesson horse at the barn I rode at, but since I was in college I couldn’t afford to lease him. He was my best buddy and he made me love riding again. His personality on the ground is the BEST, he’s the goofiest guy. When I graduated, I planned to move back to Dallas, thinking I had peaked in my riding and I didn’t want to continue without him. Sobbed while walking him out to his stall after my last lesson at my barn there (long live TKF), thinking I’d never see him again. At the same time in May 2022, his owner/my old trainer, (Tyler Kennedy) moved to only doing sales/leases instead of clients. He sent all his horses to my now trainer, Tiffany Lee (ily), to get sold/leased. I had been off riding for 9 months at this point when I found out my main man Skip is here in Texas about an hour away. I had never DM’d someone so fast as I did Tiffany about this horse. At this point after I suffered through my computer science degree, I got a good job as an engineer at Raytheon, so I had big (enough) girl money. He didn’t have anyone leasing him yet, so I via Instagram basically was like cool so stop advertising him and lmk when I can sign his lease papers. And the rest is history! I’m so thankful. The orange living the ammy dream and not going anywhere anytime soon. He’s definitely my heart horse.”
