KEY MS. CENTER STAGE | 10-YEAR-OLD MORGAN MARE | WEATHERFORD, TEXAS
Meet Liza, the 10-year-old Morgan known in the show ring as Key Ms. Center Stage. With her striking bay coat, white socks, and a nose snip, Liza is a standout at Brian Hadley Stables in Weatherford, TX. Brian Hadley Stables is renowned for its excellent care and top-notch training programs, making it the perfect home for Liza and her rider, Darcey Flores.
Darcey shares a favorite memory of competing with Liza at the Morgan World Championship Horse Show in 2020 in Training and 1st Level Dressage. Together, they won their first World Title in 1st Level Dressage Open. “This was a lifelong dream come true for me,” Darcey recalls, reflecting on their shared success.
Liza came into Darcey’s life through a serendipitous Facebook post. “My trainer’s wife found Liza in a for-sale post on Facebook and showed her to me. I purchased her solely off of the pictures as a 3-year-old (she is 10 now). I met her the day she arrived in Texas from Pennsylvania,” Darcey shares.
Liza was bred by Lori and Ron Skover and has grown into a fearless and bold competitor. “Liza is typically pretty fearless – not much fazes her. She is bold in the show ring and absolutely loves competing,” Darcey says. Liza’s favorite treat is peppermints, and she believes she needs to try anything she sees Darcey eat.
Their significant accomplishment is winning the 2020 World Champion 1st Level Dressage Open title, showcasing Liza’s talent and their strong partnership.
Darcey’s passion for riding began at the age of five. “I was standing in my front yard at the time and heard a horse riding by down the street. I followed the noise until I saw the horse and I just started following it. I’ve been hooked ever since,” she recalls. She loves the partnership she forms with her horses, and Liza has become a cherished companion.
