RUSTICUS | 12 YEAR-OLD TRAKEHNER | DOUBLE OAK, TX

Rusty, Rusticus, is a Trakehner Gelding. His sire is Favoritas XX and his dam is Rispe IV who is by Bartholdy. He was bred by Horst Dieter Jager in Germany. Rusty lives and trains at Brawley Farms in Double Oak, TX with Bob Brawley.

Rusty, the 16.2-hand chestnut horse with a white blaze and three socks, has a tough exterior but is a complete love bug once you get to know him. He’s a big teddy bear who can’t resist treats and has a way of making everyone smile. Rusty’s genuine affection and gentle nature make each day spent with him a joyous experience. He’s a reminder that even the strongest souls can harbor the sweetest hearts, and being in his presence is a privilege that fills your heart with love and happiness.

Carol, Rusty’s owner, had the incredible fortune of finding him through the assistance of her trainer, Bob Brawley. It was Bob’s keen eye and expertise that led Carol to discover Rusty, who instantly stole her heart. Five months have passed since Carol became Rusty’s owner, and they have had a special bond ever since she brought him into her life in late 2022. The serendipitous encounter and the subsequent decision to make Rusty a part of her equestrian journey have proven to be a cherished and fulfilling chapter in Carol’s life.

This love bug has a clear favorite when it comes to treats: German Horse Muffins. It’s no surprise that these delectable goodies hold a special place in his heart, considering his German heritage. The moment he catches a whiff of these delicious morsels, his ears perk up, and his eyes light up with excitement. However, Rusty’s love for treats doesn’t end there. He also finds immense joy in munching on crunchy carrots and savoring the sweetness of juicy apples. Whether it’s the irresistible aroma of German Horse Muffins or the satisfying crunch of a carrot, Rusty’s delight is palpable, making every treat time an eagerly anticipated and enjoyable experience.

Rusty, the accomplished chestnut horse, is an approved German Trakehner Verband stallion. At the 2013 Neumünster Germany Stallion Inspection, he was awarded the titles of Best Anglo-Trakehner and Best Jumper, showcasing his exceptional abilities. Rusty started his career in eventing, demonstrating his versatility and athleticism across disciplines. His remarkable accomplishments have garnered admiration from riders and spectators, leaving an enduring mark on the equestrian world.

Carol’s journey into the world of horses took an unexpected turn. While her father had a background with horses, Carol herself grew up as a city kid, far removed from the equestrian scene. However, fate had other plans in store for her. It was at the age of 38 that Carol’s passion for riding was ignited. Embracing the opportunity to explore this newfound interest, she embarked on a remarkable adventure, immersing herself in the equestrian world. Despite starting later in life, Carol’s determination and love for horses have propelled her forward, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams and discover the joy of riding.

Carol’s favorite memory with Rusty brings her back to the day they first met in Katy, a moment that forever etched itself in her heart. From the moment she laid eyes on him, Carol fell deeply in love with Rusty. It had been a journey of nearly two thousand miles for him, and the anticipation of their first ride was palpable. Initially, as they rode on the flat, Rusty displayed a calm demeanor, leading Carol to ponder whether he had aspirations of being a hunter instead of a jumper. However, everything changed the moment they approached the jumps. Like a switch being flipped, Rusty’s energy soared, and he became a force to be reckoned with. In the show ring, the true power of their partnership revealed itself as Rusty’s afterburners kicked in, fueling their pursuit of victory. A consummate professional who adores his role, Rusty embraces the buzz of the competition, knowing it’s time to give it his all. For Carol, riding Rusty is a pure joy, an experience that fills her with exhilaration and gratitude for the incredible horse beneath her.
